Lune & Wyre Fisheries Association
The Association comprises representatives of angling associations on the R Lune and R Wyre together with fishery riparian owners. It aims to maintain records of fish stocks in the rivers and to improve areas which are under performing.
It maintains a fish trap at Broadraine Weir to harvest up to 100,000 salmon eggs each year, these are taken to its hatchery where they are held for several months. In March approximately 30,000 eggs are placed out in tributaries at the top of the river in Scotty egg boxes to hatch naturally in streams which may be inaccessible to spawning adults. A further 25000 eggs are taken through first feed and are planted out as fed fry. The remaining eggs are taken through fry stage and are reared on to smolts then released.
