Systems and Control group

Welcome to my project page, which will hopefully be of enlightenment to you all. After reading what my research topics are, don't hesitate to contact me with any queries. Hope you enjoy.

Current research topics:

The aim of my research is to create and implement a crop growth simulation model to add to the pre-existing controlled greenhouse climate simulation model.

Background to the greenhouse model can be obtained from here , but basically, the model is developed using the Matlab/SIMULINK package and controls climate variables (temperature, carbon dioxide and relative humidity) to specified setpoints.

Funding for my project comes from the BBSRC , and my supervisors are Arun Chotai and Peter C Young , PCY taking over from Matt Lees recently due to his move to Imperial College . If you wish to talk to Matt about his greenhouse model, then you can mail him here .

It's all lettuce to me!

Yes, as you may have guessed, the chosen subject for crop simulation is the poor old lettuce. After encountering problems with the development of a tomato simulation model, lettuce were chosen due to the physiological simplicity. Inputs for the model are carbon dioxide concentration, temperature and incident photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) above the canopy, giving outputs of dry matter production (structural and non-structural), leaf area index (LAI) and total dry weight.

Experimental data and weather variables are obtained from the Silsoe Research Institute (SRI), and personal consultation with Zaid Chalabi enables the carrying out of simulation runs.

If you'd like to know any more about my project work, or any closely related topics, then don't hesitate to mail me .
