Brief CV

Born in 1968 in a small village called Fuenllana (though an small village there is a Web page for it); in La Mancha (yep, that is right, were D. Qixote was born as well). This is in the midlands of sunny Spain 1 & 2.

Live in Madrid since I was 5.

Studied music (piano) since I was very young, a lovely experience. At some point I wanted to become a musician, but things changed little by little, and, convinced that I was not going to be the best pianist in the world I decided to become an

Economist, since June 1991 from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (not that bad in the end).

IV Master in Public Finance Public Expenditure and Economic Programming at the Spanish Institute for Fiscal Studies, June 1992.

PhD (April 1995) in Time Series Analysis from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Cuantitative Economics Department), under the supervision of Antonio García-Ferrer.

After this (in the middle of it, to be honest), I had a chance to go to Lancaster University to do a post-doc, as a research associate in the Systems and Control group of CRES, under the supervision of Peter Young (Sept 1994-October 1997). This is another of the unforgettable experiences I have had. I will never forget those good times with all the people over there: Peter, James, Wlodek, Martin, Alison, Paul, Miranda, Chris I, Chris II, Laura, etc. (You can find links to pages of some of them here). To see the kind of thigs I did there, download my projects and papers pages. There, I had also a chance to act as a referee of different international journals, like the Journal of Forecasting, the International Journal of Forecasting, Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI) Quarterly, etc.

I have received a number of grants from different public organisations: Spanish Public Finance Ministry (1991/92); Spanish Education and Science Ministry (1992 to 1995); in two occasions I visited Lancaster University with a fellowship from the Spanish Education and Science Ministry (October to December 1993 and last quarter of 1994); British Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC; September 1994 to October 1997); and Spanish Education and Culture Ministry since December 1997.

I have participated directly or indirectly in several conferences, simposia and courses (see also my publications page): Several workshops and British Royal Statistical Society Meetings at Lancaster University; XVI, XVII and XVIII symposia of the International Institute of Forecasters (Istanbul, 1996; Barbados, 1997 y Edinburgh, 1998); Colloquium on Electricity Demand Forecasting at the London Business School (May 1995); Econometric Forecasting Theory and Practice Workshops at Oxford University (June 1997); ECAS course on time series at El Escorial (September 1997); Colloquium on Electricity Demand Forecasting at the London Business School (July 1998); etc.

Since my return to Spain (October 1997) I have been working at the Bilbao Vizcaya Bank holding (BBV) (Banco del Comercio) and at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid as an assistant lecturer (teaching Econometrics and Time Series Analysis).
